The Sparton motorcycle was created as a combination of Barton engines and Spondon chassis. Engine designer Barry Hart (yard tuner Barry Sheen) created a water-cooled unit for the 350cc class based on Suzuki GT 380 crankcases. Barry Sheen set the lap record at Brands Hatch on it in the very first practice session. Suzuki said that the rider under the contract is not allowed to ride another brand. Barry Hart rebuilt the engine to 500cc. In the 1975 North West 200 Motorcycles, Riders Martin Sharpe and Big Frank Kenedy took 1st and 2nd respectively.
